In its infancy, the members of Artist Collective have already held several art shows, yielding some successful buys for many artists.
"I've already exhibited more art work here [in one year] than I have in the past," said Rick Tautfest, an Artist Collective member.
The organization is comprised of the creative members of the Thunderbird Clubhouse, an intentional community for those recovering from mental illness. The group will host its first on-site Winter Wonderland art showing 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 4 at the clubhouse, 1251 Triad Village Drive.
During the showing, musicians and spoken word artists will be present to entertain potential art buyers with their own art. Refreshments will be served.
Jessica Crowder, an advisor of sorts for the organization, said the art work will range from $10 to $200, depending on the piece. Prints will be available as well. Crowder also said handmade silk stockings will be available for purchase. The money made from the sale of the stockings will help fund programs and outings for the group.
For some members, the art proves to be a therapeutic practice that aids them in their recovery.
"It's good for me to do it because I can feel myself in the art. I can see myself, too," said Cordial.
The group has about 25 members, although Crowder said about 10 are active. Meetings are held at 3 p.m. every Tuesday.
For those who can't make the night of the showing, Crowder said the pieces would remain in the building through the holiday season.
