Five arrested during sobriety checkpoint

Transcript Staff

Norman police arrested five people for driving under the influence of alcohol Nov. 20 during a sobriety checkpoint held in the 2800 block of N. Flood Avenue. Of the five arrested, one person was cited for DUI under 21 years of age.

Police said officers conducted the checkpoint from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of North Flood Avenue. Officers checked 443 vehicles during the checkpoint.

Officers said they appreciated the kind comments given to them by the majority of the citizens passing through the checkpoint, especially since the weather was less then pleasant. Police want to remind those who consume alcohol not to drive.

"The consequences are just too great to take the chance of getting behind the wheel when you have been drinking, so please do the right thing and don't get behind the wheel if you have been drinking," police said.
