Seasonal flu clinics canceled due to shortage of vaccine

Seasonal flu clinics scheduled at Norman's schools recently were canceled owing to a shortage of the vaccine.

Sharon Howard, Norman Public Schools health services coordinator, said the Nov. 30 clinic at Alcott and the Dec. 1 at Norman High were canceled due to the regular seasonal flu vaccine shortage.

Those clinics were scheduled for seasonal flu, but Howard said the H1N1 flu vaccine clinics the district has planned with the aid of the Cleveland County Health Department will go on as scheduled.

The final two elementary schools will have an H1N1 vaccine clinic Dec. 1. The immunization clinic will be at Truman 9-10:30 a.m. and Roosevelt 1-2:30 p.m.

After those, the district will begin hosting free H1N1 immunization clinics at the middle schools the week of Dec. 7.

"We do hope to go back to some of the elementary schools to offer the second dose of H1N1 mist for students under 10, but it will depend on the health department and supply of vaccine," Howard said.
