NEW: Third suspect held in man's death

Transcript Staff

A third arrest has been made in the death of an Oklahoma City man whose body was found in a burned car earlier this month.

Police said Michael Anthony Shields, 36, of Oklahoma City, was contacted at his home Monday evening. Police said he confessed to his part in the murder of Julian Ramirez Cazarez. Shields has been booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on a complaint of first-degree murder, third-degree arson and conspiracy.

Shields, Antonio Mendoza and Sheila Starr will be transferred to the Oklahoma County Detention Center today and should be charged in Oklahoma County District Court.

Police said no more arrests are expected in the case.

The body was identified Thursday. The 46-year-old Oklahoma City man was reported missing Monday.

Mendoza, 23, of Oklahoma City and Starr, 24, also of Oklahoma City, were taken into custody.

Cazarez’s body was found after someone reported a vehicle fire at 4:47 a.m. Nov. 22 in the vicinity of 144th Avenue NE and Indian Hills Road.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a four-door 1999 Saturn on fire, police said. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, investigators searched the car and found Cazarez inside the trunk.

After Norman Police Department investigators identified the suspects, Oklahoma City investigators assisted in locating them, Newell said.
