Barresi to speak to GOP women
Dr. Jane Barresi, Republican candidate for state school superintendent, will be the featured speaker for the Helen Cole Republican Women's Club meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday. The club will meet at Interurban Restaurant on Lloyd Noble Parkway for dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting.
Barresi is a resident of Norman. She has and undergraduate degree in education and a master's degree in speech and language disorders. She also earned her DDS degree in family and restorative dentistry.
The club also will have election of officers for 2010 as well as give out trophies to the recent Chili Challenge winners.

Gordon Cooper Tech Center filing dates announced
The board of education of Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee has announced filing dates for Zone Number 2 office.
Interested persons who live in the district may file to run as a candidate at the Pottawatomie Couny Election Board in Shawnee between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Dec. 7 through Dec. 9.
Jim Priest announces candidacy for attorney general
Oklahoma City attorney Jim Priest announced he will be running as a Democrat for Oklahoma attorney general in 2010.
"The decision to run has been the result of much thought and prayer," he said. "My motivation is summed up in a quote from Will Rogers: 'It's a great country, but you can't live in it for free.'"
Priest, 54, has three decades of legal experience handling a variety of cases. He has received the Earl Sneed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Continuing Legal Education given by the Oklahoma Bar Association, and has been named "Best of the Best" in labor and employment law by the Oklahoma Business Monthly and Corporate Counsel magazine.
Priest was president of the board for the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. He also has served as a board member for Habitat for Humanity, Bethany Public Schools Foundation and Variety Health Center, which provides health care to low-income mothers and children.
Priest helped found two nonprofit organizations, the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium and Marriage Network Oklahoma. He is also a lay minister in the Church of the Nazarene.
