Transcript Staff

A man and a woman were arrested Saturday in the murder of a man whose body was found in the trunk of a burning car in east Norman Sunday morning.

The body was identified Friday as that of Julian Ramirez Cazarez, 46, of Oklahoma City, who was reported missing Monday.

Saturday, two suspects, Antonio Cordell Mendoza, 23, of Oklahoma City and Sheila Renee Starr, 24, also of Oklahoma City, were taken in to custody, Norman Police Master Officer Jennifer Newell said in a press release.

They will be booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on first degree murder complaints, she said. There will be no bond. Formal charges should be filed Monday by the Cleveland County District Attorney's Office.

The investigation continues and more arrests are possible, Newell said.

Cazarez's body was found after someone reported a vehicle fire at 4:47 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of 144th Avenue NE and Indian Hills Road.

When emergency crews arrived, they found a four-door 1999 Saturn on fire, police said. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, investigators searched the car and found Cazarez inside the trunk.

After Norman Police Department investigators identified the suspects, Oklahoma City investigators assisted in locating them, Newell said.
