The Norman Fire Department was on the scene of a gas leak at the intersection of Fay Avenue and W. Robinson Street at 3:40 p.m. Thursday.
Norman Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said Robinson Street is closed to traffic. Robinson was shut down from Flood Avenue to Peters Avenue.
Bailey said a contractor associated with the Robinson Street Underpass project ruptured the 6 inch line.
No injuries or fires were reported, he said.
“Fire crews are monitoring the neighborhood north of the rupture for high levels of natural gas,” he said. “At this time, levels are low and the residence are being advised to keep windows closed and stay inside.”
Bailey said crews from Oklahoma Natural Gas are working to see if they can shut the gas line off. The line runs north and south.
Workers are digging north and south of the gas leak, he said. Once they reach the gas line, they will “crimp it off” and make repairs.
