Norman fire crews kept busy Wednesday and Thursday battling separate fires that damaged a trailer house and a local restaurant.
Norman Deputy Fire Chief Jim Bailey said a Moore police officer spotted flames shooting from the roof of Mooney's Pub and Grill, 6221 N. Interstate Drive at 3:04 a.m. Thursday.
"Firefighters got on scene, found a fire in the office area and quickly extinguished it," Bailey said.
He said the fire burned an office and damage the eave of the building's roof. Smoke damage was apparent throughout the structure. It took fire crews about 10 minutes to control the fire.
"Nobody was there at the time," Bailey said. "That fire is under investigation."
Bailey said the restaurant was closed for at least Thursday.
He said 21 firefighters from four of Norman's seven fire stations were sent to battle the blaze.
No injuries were reported, Bailey said. Firefighters stayed on scene about 2 1/2 hours putting out hot spots.
Bailey said an early estimate of damage was recorded at $40,000. That figure includes a combination of property and contents lost in the fire.
Attempts to reach the owners of Mooney's Pub and Grill were unsuccessful.
About 14 hours earlier, Norman firefighters responded to a trailer fire.
Norman fire investigators believe a 4-year-old child playing with a lighter started a fire Wednesday afternoon that damaged a mobile home.
No injuries were reported in the blaze which did about $5,000 to the home at 4400 W. Main St.
Bailey said the fire was reported at 1:56 p.m. Wednesday. Fire crews arrived within minutes.
"Four stations responded with 19 firefighters," he said.
A woman and the child were the only people at home when the fire ignited, Bailey said. The fire began in a bedroom. The two were able to get out without injuries.
"The fire was started with a juvenile playing with a lighter," Bailey said.
He said when firefighters arrived, they found smoke showing from the trailer.
"The fire was contained to the bedroom, and smoke traveled throughout," he said.
