Contractors group works to improve states’ roads

NORMAN — As the holidays approach and Oklahomans begin traveling statewide, the condition of roads and bridges continues to be a major concern.

The Association of Oklahoma General Contractors s working to ensure that Oklahoma’s roads and bridges are maintained as a top priority within the state to ensure a growing, yet solid economy.

Bobby Stem, executive director of AOGC is working with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and its Eight-Year Construction Work Plan to improve State and US highways, and Interstates through 2020. It is AOGC’s focus to bring together contractors, elected officials and state leaders to continue improving Oklahoma’s roads and bridges.  

“This Eight-Year Construction Work Plan will be valuable in developing Oklahoma’s roads and bridges,” said Stem. “My hope is these roads and bridges will help grow our already prosperous state. These highways belong to and serve Oklahomans and benefit future generations in all 77 counties.” 

The Eight-Year Construction Work Plan covers projects in Oklahoma’s 77 counties. In Cleveland County, there are a combined 27 projects with a total projected cost of $187.7 million. This Eight-Year Construction Work Plan includes extensive work on roads and bridges on Interstate 35, US Highway 77 and State Highways 9 and 39. The transformation that these projects bring will almost immediately increase job growth and aid in economic development.

Oklahoma’s Governor Mary Fallin, along with legislators and AOGC are committed to improving the deficient roads and bridges in Oklahoma’s transportation system.

These officials, in hopes of creating a safer state for travelers and residents alike, have set the expectations high for the completion and renovation of Oklahoma’s roads and bridges.
