Norman teenager Taylor Marlow wants to go for the gold, but she needs the public's help to reach it.
Marlow, 18, an ambassador for Girl Scout Troop 247, is working toward the Gold Award. She's been a Girl Scout for 12 years.
"The Gold Award is the highest award that you can receive in Girl Scouts," Marlow said.
The award focuses on leadership skills, she said.
Next Saturday, Marlow will host a day camp for girls in sixth through eighth grades. Camp hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"It's kind of a girl day camp," she said.
Marlow said the camp's focus will be to strengthen self-image and self-confidence for girls.
In the morning session, Norman Mayor Cindy Rosenthal and State Rep. Lisa Billy, R-Purcell, who represents State House District 42, will speak to the audience.
Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers will cater lunch, Marlow said. Participants also will receive cupcakes.
After lunch, participants can take a creative writing workshop and decorate compact mirrors. Marlow said she is working on having a session on either self-defense or yoga for girls.
She said space is available for the workshop.
"I have all spaces open, I only have two people registered," Marlow said Friday afternoon.
She said the registration fee is $1. Registration fees collected will be donated to buy items for Bridges of Norman.
For those who have trouble coming up with the registration fee, Marlow said she will be able to work out a solution.
