A Newalla man who allegedly threatened to harm his daughter and wife Monday night with a sword is being held at the Cleveland County Detention Center.
Cleveland County prosecutors charged Roy Thomas McAnally, 61, Newalla, Tuesday with domestic abuse by strangulation and assault with a dangerous weapon. Both counts are felonies.
A Cleveland County Sheriff's Office employee said McAnally was listed on the jail roster Thursday afternoon. His bond was set at $25,000.
According to court papers, Cleveland County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to an assault about 7:54 p.m. Monday at a residence on Armadillo Drive in Newalla. When deputies arrived at the home, they talked with McAnally's daughter, Tammy McAnally and his wife, Pat McAnally.
Tammy McAnally told deputies she was in the living room when her father walked in and began to yell. According to a court affidavit, the daughter told investigators that McAnally picked up a sword off the kitchen table and threatened to kill her with it.
Pat McAnally told deputies that about 6 p.m. Monday, her husband was acting "very strange," according to the affidavit. She said she had planned to leave McAnally and get a divorce.
According to the affidavit, Pat McAnally packed a bag and started to leave the house. She walked in the kitchen and McAnally allegedly grabbed her by the throat and began to choke her.
McAnally allegedly told his wife not to move and started yelling at his daughter. He let his wife out of the choke hold and then picked up the sword laying on the kitchen table and threatened harm, according to court papers.
Deputies found McAnally sitting in a white small truck near the home. McAnally exited the truck and deputies arrested him.
Court papers showed deputies found six pocket knives on McAnally and two large buck knives in the vehicle's front seat.
McAnally's preliminary hearing conference will be 1 p.m. March 31.
