Civic-minded college students may apply for the Frank Newman Leadership Award through the Oklahoma Campus Compact program.
The program provides two cash awards of $5,000, but students must apply by March 21.
The Newman Award is designed to support students with financial need who have shown civic leadership potential through public and community service and scholastic achievement. The award provides mentorship and financial support to help students achieve civic and academic goals.
Two awards -- one each for a two-year institution student and a four-year institution student -- are available nationwide.
To qualify, an Oklahoma student must be a sophomore or junior at a four-year university that participates in Oklahoma Campus Compact, which includes the University of Oklahoma, or must attend a community college that is a member of the Oklahoma Campus Compact.
Students must submit an online application and other materials. To meet the selection criteria, the student should show evidence of civic leadership potential in the previous year, as evidenced by academic achievement and the ability to create lasting change through civic action.
Students can apply online at www.compact.org. For more information, visit www.okhighered.org/campus-com.
