Grants available from OTRC
The Oklahoma Tobacco Research Center (OTRC) is soliciting applications for seed grant funding for FY 2010, the program's second annual funding cycle.
Applications will be accepted for Research Projects for Junior Investigators, which includes new research ideas and the collection of preliminary data that will enable investigators to compete successfully for national research grants.
A principal investigator (PI) is considered a junior investigator if he or she has not previously competed successfully as PI for a significant NIH independent research award.
OTRC expects to fund three to six proposals in fiscal year 2010, with a maximum term of one year and maximum direct costs of $50,000. Only applications screened as relevant to OTRC's mission will be accepted for review. A letter of intent with a brief description of the proposal is required. These submissions will be reviewed by the OTRC Scientific Advisory Committee and those identified as most relevant and promising will be invited to submit a complete proposal.

The University of Oklahoma School of Music will present the Sutton Concert Series with the following January performances:
· "Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something Blew" by Irv Wagner, trombone, 8 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Sharp Concert Hall. The performance will feature Concerto for Trombone by Tibor Serly, Sonata for Trombone by Thom Ritter George, "Carnival of Venice" arranged by Jaroslav Cimera and concluding with a Gershwin melody of "Someone To Watch Over Me" and Dixieland Medley.
· Rossitza Jekova-Goza, violin, and Stephanie Leon Shames, piano, perform "Ethnic Signatures," featuring musical pieces with strong national identities, 8 p.m. Jan. 21 in Pitman Recital Hall. Music from Eastern Europe, Russia, Finland and America will be included in the performance.
· Jeongwon Ham, piano, and Valerie Watts, flute, will perform 8 p.m. Jan. 26 in Pitman Recital Hall. The performance will include "Les Sylvains" Op. 60 by Cecile Chaminade, 2 Pieces for Piano by Katherine Hoover and Scherzo Op.10 by Clara Wieck.
· Larry Hammett, guitar, and Anthony Stoops, bass, will perform 8 p.m. Jan. 30 in Pitman Recital Hall. The concert includes works by Chick Corea, Larry Hammett, Gaspar Sans and others. Music will include jazz, classical, baroque and flamenco bass. Percussionist Ricardo Souza will turn the duo into a trio.
All Sutton Series performances are in OU's Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd St. Tickets for Sutton Series events are $8 for adults and $5 for students, faculty, staff and senior adults. For tickets and up-to-date information, call the Fine Arts Box Office at 325-4101.
