Sales taxes up

Sales taxes returned to the City of Norman this month were up over the same period in 2007, state officials announced.

The city's return, based on October business, was $4,545,252 compared to $3,620,418. The tax rate for this year was 3.5 percent compared to 3 percent for the same month in 2007.

Statewide, the December distribution of $116,370,277 was returned to 505 cities and towns and is an increase of $11,030,414 over the previous year. Seventy-four counties shared $24,714,963.

Moore's 3.5 percent return for October 2008 was $1,802,500, compared to $1,648,496 for the October retail sales in 2007.

Other area cities and their October 2008 and October 2007 receipts in parentheses are:

· Noble, $131,688 ($94,004).

· Purcell, $304,586 ($301,637)

· Blanchard, $143,091 ($125,475).

· Lexington, $22,724 ($20,119).

· Slaughterville, $8,039 ($9,138).

· Newcastle, $356,827 ($402,360).
