MOORE -- Sporting its new roof, the Moore Public Library will kick off the holiday season with its 17th annual Holiday Gala 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the library, 225 S. Howard Ave.
Library staffers said the gala will feature crafts for the children, holiday music and a visit from Santa.
In addition to Christmas carols, musical performances will be provided by the St. Anthony's Catholic Church bell ringers, the Eastlake Elementary First Grade Choir, Waites and Measures Renaissance Performing Group and the Moore Library Staff Holiday Choir.?
A free family photograph with Santa Claus also will be given to customers courtesy of Reeltime Photograph and Video of Moore.?
The gala will follow the Old Town Tree Lighting Ceremony in downtown Moore.
Other December activities include:
· Registration for December Computer classes begins Monday. Classes will be held in the library's computer training classroom and registration is required for each individual class.
"The library is offering a special class this month focusing on our newly redesigned Web site and catalog," said Shannon Harris, the library's computer training coordinator. "Many of our customers have voiced a need for understanding how to access their own library card account and personal account information, as well as information on how to place holds on items and make payments to their accounts."
· Computer Basics, at 10 a.m. Dec. 2, is an introduction to the computer and includes hands-on practice and tips for using a mouse.
· Keyboarding Basics, 10 a.m. Dec. 5, provides an overview of computer keyboard basics. Class includes keyboard practice and additional resources.
· Basic Word Processing, 10 a.m. Dec. 9, focuses on the basics of using the word processing software Microsoft Word. Class will include opening and saving a document and manipulating document text.
· Intermediate Word Processing, 10 a.m. Dec. 12, provides use of advanced elements and skills of Microsoft Word. The class includes hands-on practice with the functions of cut, copy, paste and using bullets. Word Processing Basics class, or its equivalent, is a prerequisite.
· Using the Library Web Site and Catalog class will be 10 a.m. Dec. 16; customers will learn how to navigate and better use the library's newly redesigned Web site and online catalog. Class includes using the catalog to manage personal library account.
· Scanner Basics, scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 18, is a introduction to the scanner with demonstration and tips on scanning pictures and other documents.
