Healthy cooking program free to public Thursday

NOBLE --First State Bank will host a program titled "Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving Cooking and Eating" 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Noble Public Library, 204 N. Fifth St. The featured speaker will be Nicole Moore, family and consumer science educator at the Cleveland County Extension Center.

Moore, who received bachelor's and master's degrees in human development and family science from Oklahoma State University, will present recipes, hints, facts and handouts emphasizing heart-healthy meal planning.

"My responsibilities at the Extension Center include health and nutrition education for families, both adults and children," Moore said.

"It's always exciting, and sometimes challenging, to try a new twist to an familiar dish, especially if that means improving the taste while reducing fats, sugars, calories, cholesterol, sodium and such," Moore said. "We want everyone to eat as much as they want, within reason of course, and to be assured that what they eat is as healthy and nutritious for them as is possible."

That way, they'll enjoy their Thanksgiving dinner, from appetizer to dessert, even more, Moore said.

"Dessert will be served first, starting at 6:30," said Arlene Perry, First State Bank. "Nicole is bringing freshly made pumpkin pies. I'm sure she'll mix her magic in the recipe." This will give everyone a hint of how delicious Moore's healthy recipes can be, she said.

"We're pleased to bring this family-oriented healthy eating program to our community," says Kim King, CEO and Chairman of FSB. Those who attend can implement Moore's suggestions and benefit from her knowledge at every meal, not just Thanksgiving, she said.
