Norman Regional to get award

Norman Regional Health System will receive the Barbara Lynch Community Partner award.

Norman Public Schools superintendent Dr. Joe Siano nominated Norman Regional Health System for the award for its collaboration with NPS. David Whitaker, chief executive officer for Norman Regional Health System, will be presented the award during the General Session of the 2008 OSSBA/CCOSA Annual Conference and Exhibition Saturday at the Cox Convention Center.

Through the collaboration which began with the 2007-2008 school year, the district has a registered nurse in each of the two high schools, licensed practical nurses in each of the four middle schools and one elementary school serving multi-handicapped children and health assistants in the remaining 15 elementary schools.

In addition, two RNs oversee the LPNs and health assistants. Sharon Howard, NPS health services coordinator, is in charge of the program.

The Barbara Lynch Community Partner award was established by the Oklahoma State School Boards Association in honor of Barbara Lynch, who served on the Tulsa Technology Board of Education from 1986 to 2003 and was a member of the Oklahoma State School Boards Association Board of Directors from 1993 to 2003.
