Severe storms make way into state
OKLAHOMA CITY — Severe storms on the edges of Oklahoma have brought strong winds and hail, and forecasters warned that the western and central parts of the state could see similar conditions during the overnight hours.
The National Weather Service issued four tornado warnings on Sunday night — two each in Beaver County in the Panhandle and Ottawa County in far northeastern Oklahoma.
But Chris Sohl, a Norman-based meteorologist with the weather service, says no twisters appeared to touch the ground from either storm.
Sohl says there are reports of fallen trees, some as big as two feet in diameter, south of Wyandotte from the storms in Ottawa County, but that it’s thought that damage was due to straight-line winds.
He says the storms also produced hail as large as an inch in diameter.
