The Central Oklahoma Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, on Saturday, will host this year's 3K and 5K Walk to Cure Diabetes, at Oklahoma State University ? Oklahoma City Campus, 900 N. Portland Ave. in Oklahoma City.
The Walk to Cure Diabetes is dedicated to raising funds for research designed to find a cure for Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. Visit www.jdrf.org/oklahoma to register.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. A walk by corporate teams will start at 9:30 a.m., and family teams at 10 a.m.
The walk will be led by corporate chair Dr. Jerry Carroll, president of OSU-OKC. He is expected to be joined by thousands of walkers from companies, families and local schools.
Also at the event will be featured appearances by Scooby Doo from Cox Communications and the Cartoon Network; Rowdy the Redhawk (Redhawks mascot); Clyde S. Dale the Clydesdale (Blazers mascot); and Crossin' Dixon band performing after the walk.
Free food will be available before and after the walk. Entertainment will include Moonbounces, rock walls, obstacle courses and other inflatables; music and entertainment throughout the day; facepainting and temporary tattoos for children.
Funds raised at the event will finance research. Curing the debilitating disease of diabetes and its complications is the mission of JDRF. More than 3 million Americans live with juvenile diabetes and its complications. About 30,000 new cases are diagnosed every year, according to health officials
