Traffic stop leads to cocaine arrest

A Norman man was charged with possessing more than an ounce of cocaine, after being stopped on a traffic violation Sunday afternoon by Norman police.

Augusto Sanchez Herrera, also known as Augosto Herrera Sanchez, 48, Norman, was charged with unlawful trafficking in illegal drugs; failure to display a tax stamp on a controlled dangerous substance; and unlawful possession of drug proceeds.

According to court documents, Norman Police Officer Jeffrey Casillas stopped Herrera around 3:40 p.m. for not wearing a seat belt.

In a search subsequent to the traffic stop, Casillas reported finding a large bag containing 29 grams of cocaine, and smaller packages containing a total of 17 grams of cocaine.
