Rape charges were filed Thursday against a 30-year-old Noble man, after a 14-year-old girl reported she’d been molested at the man’s residence about a month ago.
Benjamin Michael Work was charged with first-degree rape by force and fear.
According to Noble police, the girl said she’d gone to the man’s residence in the 400 block of Woods Drive, to “hang out” with a female friend and Work at about 4 p.m. on a weekend in mid-May. The girl said the three consumed alcohol. Her friend went outside, and the girl said Work grabbed her and took her to an upstairs bedroom where he raped her. She said she initially didn’t report the rape out of fear, police said.
Also Thursday, a Norman man was charged with filing a false insurance claim.
Investigators said Edward S. Rodriguez, 40, called his insurance company Sept. 9 and requested his vehicle insurance be reinstated. The next day, Rodriguez allegedly contacted the company and said he was driving his 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck around the Canadian River and drove into deep water, submerging the vehicle above its windows with water.
The company began to process the claim, when someone called the fraud hotline and reported Rodriguez had actually submerged the vehicle Sept. 3, and had bragged about his plans to defraud the insurance company. Investigators also interviewed a man who said he’d pulled the vehicle from the water Sept. 3, and said he knew the date because it was the opening day for dove season.
