Norman author, Robert A. Magarian, will speak about his writing and to autograph copies of his first novel, "The Watchman," at 7 p.m. June 14 at the Norman Public Library.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at the event.
Magarian has published one novel and is working on his second. He has written in scientific journals for the past 30 years and said he is enjoying incorporating his field of expertise.
"The Watchman," is a political thriller about bioterrorism. Molecular biologist Matt Brenner seeks revenge for the mysterious death of his childhood friend, Jack Sinclair, a scientist in a secret Army facility. Matt uncovers shocking crimes in the commanding general's past, and horrible happenings that don't add up in the research facility.
Magarian began writing fiction in 1998 and continues to write for several hours each day at his computer and on yellow legal pads, he said. He is currently working on a second novel, "Real Consequences". He lives in Norman with his wife Charmaine and their Golden Retriever.
Magarian, medicinal chemist, researcher, educator, inventor and author, received three degrees University of Mississippi including a bachelor's degrees in philosophy and pharmacy and a doctorate in medicinal chemistry. He is professor emeritus of pharmacy and medicinal chemistry at the University of Oklahoma, College of Pharmacy and has conducted research in pharmaceutical laboratories.
"The Watchman" is in the Pioneer Library System's collection and may be borrowed at any of the nine branch libraries in Cleveland, McClain and Pottawatomie counties.
