Police are searching for a 30-year-old Norman man who escaped from officers early Tuesday morning after being stopped and arrested for reportedly having a loaded .38 revolver in his car.
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Kevin Lamontrice Franklin. Franklin was in handcuffs when he gave officers the slip, police said.
Franklin was charged Tuesday in Cleveland County District Court with feloniously possessing a firearm; possession of a firearm with a removed or defaced serial number; and escape from lawful custody.
A passenger in the vehicle, Terrance Lavon Osborne, 28, Norman, was charged with feloniously possessing a firearm and possession of a firearm with a removed or defaced serial number.
An officer pulled Franklin over shortly after midnight at the corner of Lindsey Street and Oakhurst Avenue, for having an obscured paper tag taped to the back glass of his vehicle, police said.
"The back glass was so darkly tinted, the officer couldn't see the tag even when standing next to it," said Lt. Leonard Judy.
Officers found the loaded firearm in the pocket behind the passenger seat, Judy said.
Franklin has 10 prior felony convictions from Cleveland County, court records show.
