NEW: Detectives seek help in strong arm robbery case

Norman police detectives have released a composite sketch of a robbery suspect in hopes that someone may recognize the man.

The sketch was created with assistance from the victim, a 28 year old Norman man who told officers that he was assaulted and robbed while walking to work on the afternoon of Thursday, August 27. He told officers that he was walking on Main Street near the traffic circle at Carter Avenue, when a burgundy colored Chevrolet Suburban with spinners on the wheels pulled alongside him and stopped. He said that the suspect spoke to him, and when he replied, the man got out and knocked him to the ground, then took his wallet from his pocket.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid thirties, just over 6 feet tall with a heavy build. He was bald or had his head shaved, wore gold hoop earrings in one or both ears, and had a teardrop tattoo near the outside corner of his left eye. He is further described as having prominent earlobes. At the time of the robbery, the man wore a long sleeved blue and green plaid shirt and black slacks. The victim told officers the man had a foreign accent.

The victim last saw the suspect driving away west on Main Street. He sustained scratches and some bruises in the assault, but declined medical treatment.

Anyone who feels they may know the identity of the suspect is asked to call the Norman Police Department at 321-1444, or CrimeStoppers at 366-7867.
