NORMAN — Due to rotating spring exhibitions and other building maintenance, the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art at the University of Oklahoma is temporarily closing the new Stuart Wing.
The museum, however, is offering free admission to the Lester Wing throughout the process. Museum officials said the Stuart Wing should reopen Tuesday, Jan. 17.
“The museum staff apologizes for any inconvenience this closure may cause,” said Ghislain d’Humières, director of the museum. “However, with two major exhibitions rotating out for new, exciting exhibitions opening later this month, it will be worth the wait. During this time, we welcome visitors with free admission and hope they will enjoy the Weitzenhoffer Collection of French Impression and other collections and works on display in the Lester Wing.”
Museum visitors also may view Vénus à la Coquille I, a sculpture by Henri Matisse on loan by a private collector through Feb. 14. The museum’s reinstallation of modern and contemporary, Asian, African and Oceanic art from the permanent collection also are on display.
The museum opens the 98th annual School of Art & Art History Student Exhibition on Friday, Jan. 20 and Highlights from the Permanent Collection of Photography, Part 1 on Friday, Jan. 27.
The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is located in the OU Arts District on the corner of Elm Avenue and Boyd Street, 555 Elm Ave. in Norman.
Admission to the museum is free to all OU students with a current student ID and all museum association members, $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, $3 for children age 6 to 17, $2 for OU faculty/staff and free for military veterans with proof and children 5 and under.
The museum is closed on Mondays. Admission is free on Tuesdays. The museum’s website is www.ou.edu/fjjma. For information and accommodations on the basis of disability, call 325-4938.
