Council conference to meet early

NORMAN — The Norman City Council will meet early in the city council conference this week. The 5 p.m. non-voting meeting Tuesday will allow for discussion regarding a University North Park Tax Increment Finance district project plan and a status update on the city’s strategic water supply plan.

The regular city council meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. Under consideration for a council vote is a preliminary plat for Harvest Church Addition on 14-and-a-half acres on the west side of 36th Avenue Northwest, north of Indian Hills Road.

The property is adjacent to the current Harvest Church and parking lot. Both parcels were in the original preliminary plat in 2002, but the applicant chose not to file a final plat for the parcel at that time, according to city staff reports.

The planning commission approved the recommendation at its Aug. 9 meeting.

The church plans to build a parking lot and install recreational ball fields in the future. City staff recommends approval.

Council members also will consider a compromise settlement of two workers’ compensation claims by Luther Wilson Jr. for $64,445. Wilson Jr. was a firefighter who filed claims in October 2011 and February 2012 alleging a right rotator cuff injury and a cumulative back injury, according to city staff reports.

The cases have proceeded through normal litigation channels and the settlement offer would “resolve all issues,” according to staff reports. City staff recommends approval of the settlement.

Wilson retired April 1. He had served as a public safety employee for 33 years.
