NORMAN — Cleveland County commissioners approved several agenda items for the Sheriff’s Office during their regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
There were 56 items declared as surplus equipment from the Sheriff’s Office. The items were from the old jail. The county has not yet decided what they will do with the surplus items.
The items include everything from cabinets and lockers to washing machines and copiers.
In last week’s meeting they discussed having the items sold at auction or being transferred and used at the juvenile detention center. Another option was to have the construction company that will take down the old jail remove the items and sell them at auction. The cost would then be netted out of the overall fee for the project.
The disposition of the items will be addressed at a later date.
Commissioners also approved to add additional lines to the existing service agreement between the Sheriff’s Office and Verizon Wireless. Two lines will be added for Mobile Broadband devices for a total of 17 lines.
Undersheriff Rhett Burnett said the additional lines will be used for internet “hotspots” for patrol officers. The lines will allow the officers to connect to the Sheriff’s Office system from their patrol cars he said.
An existing contract between the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and Cox business for the addition of the Smart Bill Connect Combo Package also was approved. Bill Connect provides account codes for tracking long distance calls.
Burnett said by tracking the long distance calls they can make sure the proper people are using it. He said they haven’t had any problems but they would like to keep track of the calls regardless.
Street closures for the Norman Mardi Gras Parade were approved as well. The commissioners said the same streets that were closed last year for the parade will be closed again this year on February 9, 2013.
The streets include the 100-200 blocks of E. Comanche St., the 100 block of S. Jones Ave., the 100-200 blocks of E. Main St. and the 100 block of S. Crawford Ave.
Other agenda items approved included:
· The 2013 Cleveland County snow routes.
· The Cleveland County 2013 payroll schedule.
· The Cleveland County jail report which included 379 prisoners, to date, at the F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center.
· A resolution determining maximum monthly highway expenditures in the amount of $6,103,859.61.
· A contract between Cleveland County on behalf of the County Treasurer’s Office and Oklahoma Office Systems for maintenance on a Konica Milton Bizhub C364.
