Norman leaders meet with D.C. delegation

NORMAN — Business and city leaders from Norman are in Washington, D.C., this week advocating for the city’s interests.

Norman Chamber of Commerce President John Woods reported that 25 representatives from the business community, the University of Oklahoma and Norman City Council members Jim Griffin and Tom Kovach began Wednesday with a briefing by the U.S. Chamber concerning federal issues of sequestration, work force development and education, and federal regulations impacting business.

Woods reported that the delegation met Wednesday with Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Tulsa, followed with separate meetings with Rep. Tom Cole, R-Moore, and Rep. James Lankford, R-Oklahoma City.

“Tomorrow we will host a breakfast for the state congressional delegation and will meet with Congressman Mullin,” Woods said via email Wednesday morning.

Rep. Markwayne Mullin, R-Westville, succeeded Dan Boren to represent Oklahoma’s second district.

The chamber’s annual Washington, D.C., fly-in includes a Congressional Breakfast Reception honoring all members of Oklahoma’s legislative delegation and their staffs. The 2013 breakfast reception will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Cannon Building today.

This year’s fly-in includes a nightcap get-together for Norman attendees and special Oklahomans that call Washington, D.C., home.

The Norman chamber’s Washington fly-in is funded by sponsorships from chamber members.
