Woman charged in Tuesday pursuit

Norman — A Norman woman accused of leading police on a high speed pursuit Tuesday morning faces a list of criminal charges, according to court records.

Cleveland County prosecutors charged Paige Lanette Whitlow, 20, with eluding/attempting to elude a police officer, a felony. Records show Whitlow also was charged with misdemeanor counts of leaving scene of accident involving damage, resisting an officer, driving with license cancelled/suspended/revoked and speeding in excess of lawful maximum limit.

Norman police said Master Police Officer Tim Smith attempted to pull over a 2001 Ford F-150 at 10:49 a.m. in the area of Apache Street and Berry Road at 10:49 a.m. Tuesday on a speeding complaint. Smith observed the pickup traveling 38 in a 25 mph speed zone, according to a court affidavit.

Instead of stopping, the female motorist identified as Whitlow continued driving, police said. The pursuit continued around Campus Corner where the pickup collided with an OG&E utility truck at the intersection of Duffy and DeBarr streets.

“The vehicle failed to stop for several miles traveling at a high rate of speed,” Smith said in the affidavit.

About three minutes later, the pickup approached the intersection of Berry Road and Boyd Street. Police said Whitlow tried to turn southbound from the westbound lane. As she tried the turn, the pickup collided with another vehicle.

Police said the pursuit ended at the intersection. Officers arrested Whitlow at the scene.

Whitlow was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center Tuesday afternoon. She was released several hours later on a $2,650.90 bond, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department.
