Norman — As part of The Big Read: The Maltese Falcon, the Noble Public Library, 204 N. Fifth, presents a movie and discussion based upon author Dashiell Hammett’s last novel, “The Thin Man.”
The film begins at 7 p.m. today in the library. The ensuing discussion will be led by film scholar John Springer, a faculty member of the University of Central Oklahoma.
The social and historical contexts for the “Thin Man” movie series resulted in a Nick and Nora Charles franchise that contributed significantly to the careers of actors William Powell and Myrna Loy. Although Hammett wrote only one novel with Nick and Nora Charles, it spawned six films between 1934 and 1947. A “Thin Man” television series followed in the 1950s.
