Center plans meet/learn event for potenial volunteers

NORMAN — The Center for Children and Families, a Norman-based nonprofit, currently has an immediate need for volunteers and mentors.

The group plans a public get acquainted event at 5:30 p.m.Thursday for those interested in learning how they can make a difference this summer. The Volunteer Meet & Learn event will be at the Center, 1151 E. Main St., in the building ‘G’ of the Community Services Building on the corner of Main and 12th streets.

The types of volunteer opportunities at the center vary widely, from mentoring children and youth in the Summer Enrichment Program to reading to toddlers, or even helping with administrative tasks

“Mentoring children is such a rewarding experience,” said Katie Fitzgerald, executive director. “And a child who has even one positive role model in their life is far more likely to grow up well adjusted and have greater success overcoming any of life’s obstacles — so volunteering really is a win-win situation.”

Anyone 18 and older is welcome to volunteer at the Center for Children and Families. Opportunities to be discussed at the Volunteer Meet & Learn include mentoring youth in the Neighborhood Centers Summer Program, managing Saturday exchanges for Divorce Services, working with toddlers and young children during Parents Assistance groups, and other administrative opportunities.

RSVP by email to Christi Mackey at cmackey@ccfinorman.org or calling 364-1420. Details of the event can be found on the web at: http://www.ccfinorman.org
