Fire officials: Arrested boy lives near crime scenes

NORMAN — A 15-year-old boy arrested Monday in connection with several vehicle fires lives in a trailer park where three of the fires happened, according to fire officials.

Norman Deputy Chief Jim Bailey said the boy resided at Lexington Crossing, in the 800 block of Lexington Street. Following his arrest, the boy was taken to Cleveland County’s juvenile detention facility.

Bailey said the Norman Fire Marshal’s Office continues its investigation into the fires, which occurred between Jan. 16 and Sunday in the same vicinity.

Nine vehicles were damaged in seven fires, Bailey said. Some buildings next to the cars also caught fire.

Firefighters responded to vehicle fires at 222 Skylark Court, 701 Terry Drive, 702 Terry Drive and 121 Crystal Bend on Jan. 16. Crews were called to separate fires at 800 Lexington Street on Jan. 17.

Firefighters investigated another vehicle fire Sunday at 800 Lexington Street, Bailey said.

There was no word Tuesday if the boy would face charges as either an adult or juvenile should he be charged in Cleveland County District Court.

Bailey said fire investigators don’t believe the fires in the northern part of the city are connected to those that burned four duplexes and vehicles Saturday night on Beaumont Street.
