NORMAN — A Norman High School student allegedly stabbed another during an incident Wednesday afternoon near the school, according to Norman police.
Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley police received a call about the stabbing about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“Someone called in at 12:26 p.m. and said there is a male bleeding in a car in the 100 block of East Main Street,” Easley said.
He said when firefighters and EMSStat paramedics arrived, they could not find the victim.
“Less than four minutes later, we got a call about a stabbing that had occurred in the 900 block of West Main across from Norman High School,” Easley said.
He said the 16-year-old victim drove himself to Norman Regional Hospital. His condition was not available.
“Apparently, according to school authorities, the victim reported the stabbing and provided the suspect’s name to school police,” he said.
Easley said school authorities detained the 15-year-old alleged suspect at the high school, after he came back onto school property and subsequently turned him over to Norman police.
Norman Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano said the school was not locked down at anytime during Wednesday’s incident.
“The student who apparently was the perpetrator was taken into custody by Norman police. There was no need for a lockdown,” Siano said.
Siano said administrators will look into the matter because it is student related.
“We’ll take information from the police in their investigation, and then we’ll deal with that matter as we would any discipline issue in accordance with board policy,” Siano said.
He said students will be disciplined appropriately.
“If there is a weapon involved, then it’s not something we’re going to tolerate,” Siano said.
Norman police detectives are investigating the incident.
