NORMAN — The holidays came early to the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which announced last week that it will extend free admission to all visitors, thanks to an annual $60,000 gift from the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department. The gifts keep coming as Muse, the museum store, offers 15 to 40 percent discounts on all sales Friday.
The second annual Holiday Grab Bag Sale will be 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Each visitor will receive a grab bag with a 15 to 40 percent discount on total purchases.
“The Grab Bag Sale will be a lot of fun because it’s a mystery to find out what kind of discount you’ll get at the end,” said Jin Garton, manager and buyer for Muse. “But it’s always a great deal.”
The store’s merchandise includes art-inspired, educational and even zany gifts, as well as fashionable accessories and handmade jewelry. Catalogs from current and past exhibitions and collections and other unique items are among the store’s offerings. The museum will be closed Dec. 25 and will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 28. The museum also will be closed Jan. 1. The museum is closed all Mondays and will reopen with normal operating hours Jan. 2.
To continue with the giving spirit, the FJJMA is collecting donations for Positive Tomorrows, an Oklahoma City school that serves homeless children and their families. Throughout December, the museum is collecting children’s coats, gloves, scarves, socks, toiletry items, school supplies and Walmart or Target gift cards at the front desk.
