NORMAN — Since the original schematic of Legacy Park first circulated a few years ago, the staff at the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau has been salivating like a hungry human before a five-course meal for it to be complete and ready for events.
When we saw the traffic signal and sign installed about a week and a half ago on 24th Ave. NW that said “Legacy Park Drive,” it was like seeing the first Christmas gift appear under the tree.
Sure, we have been spying construction vehicles moving around red dirt for a while now, but this sign helps all of us who drive the stretch of road to visualize just where the outdoor amphitheater will be located.
(This moving dirt is not the same project on the north side of Academy. That area will be HomeGoods, DSW, Michaels and other retail, also enormously exciting.)
Although the CVB has been actively engaged in Legacy Park discussions from the outset, seeing an actual sign with Legacy Park Drive was a tangible, visual symbol that the schematic is becoming reality. The new sign there is definitely a sign of progress for a venue that will greatly enhance the attractiveness of Norman and be a catalyst for economic development, too.
Even more exciting than the street sign would be a billboard on Interstate 35 or 24th Ave. NW featuring the schematic for all to see.
