County approves invoice for legal counsel

NORMAN — Cleveland County Commissioners approved the payment of an invoice Monday for outside legal counsel hired to respond to a taxpayer’s lawsuit.

Commissioners said the lawsuit was about a question on the jail bond.

“There was nothing to the suit,” County Commissioner Rusty Sullivan said. “It was frivolous.”

The county approved the invoice from Fellers, Snider, Blankenship, Bailey and Tippens P.C. — for work through Sept. 30 — in the amount of $4,243 during their regularly scheduled meeting.

Other agenda items the board approved included:

· A renewal of a contract between the Cleveland County Assessor and Oracle (a software company) at a cost of $771. Last year’s cost was $748. The contract is from Feb. 17, 2013, to Feb. 16, 2014.

· A service agreement between the Cleveland County Health Department and Shred-it for document destruction services for the Norman and Moore offices. The charge for Norman and Moore is $7 per console and $90 minimum per service. Service will be every two weeks for Norman and every four weeks for Moore.

· A resolution determining the maximum monthly highway expenditures, totaling to $5,554,673.

· The jail report from the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Department. To date, there are 404 inmates at the F. DeWayne Beggs Detention Center. Of those inmates, 73 are waiting to be transferred by the Department of Corrections.
