OKLAHOMA CITY ? State Reps. Scott Martin and Lewis Moore were proud today to welcome and celebrate with a number of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, who attended events at the state Capitol commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America.
The day began with Scout groups displaying their camping gear and other materials in the morning. Martin and Moore, both Eagle Scouts, raced homemade cars on a Pinewood Derby track around noon. Brin Fair, the Boy Scouts of American Last Frontier Council Order of the Arrow Lodge Chief, delivered a Scouting Report to the State from 12:45 to 1:20 p.m.
The day ended in the House Chambers with Martin's reading of a proclamation from Gov. Brad Henry and a brief address from Fair.
Martin said he was pleased to take part in the festivities and said the Boy Scouts of America continues to have a significant impact on the lives of many Oklahomans.
"For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been one of the foremost character building organizations in our country," Martin, R-Norman, said. "Millions of young men, including myself, have benefited from their time in Scouts. Today was a wonderful celebration of an important milestone, and I am just thrilled to be a part of it."
Those who attended the event on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America included: BSA Area Director Larry Brown, BSA Cimarron Council Scout Executive Bobby Schultz, BSA Last Frontier Council Director of Field Service Chip Armishaw, BSA Last Frontier Council Program Director Ryan Lemons, BSA District Executive Phillip Mitchell and state Scoutmasters, Cubmasters and Girl Scout leaders.
