Chuck Thompson, president and CEO of Republic Bank and Trust in Norman, has been appointed to serve a three-year term on the Cerebral Palsy Commission by Gov. Brad Henry.
The commission is the governing board of directors for the J.D. McCarty Center for children with developmental disabilities in Norman.
Thompson brings many years of volunteer board experience to the commission having sat on a number of community and state boards, including stints on the board of directors of Norman Regional Hospital, where he served as chairman for four years.
"We are pleased with the governor's appointment of Chuck to the commission," said Curtis Peters, director and CEO of the McCarty Center. "He came highly recommended by Karen Rieger who is one of our commissioners. They had worked together on the Norman Regional Hospital board some years ago. Chuck brings a lot of experience, including healthcare, to our commission."
"When Karen Rieger approached me about being nominated to the McCarty Center's commission I didn't have to think twice about it," Thompson said. "I've had a personal connection to the McCarty Center all my life. My great-grandfather, Jude Lewis, was a member of the 40 et 8 and one of the original founders of the center. I've known about the center and been around the center my entire life. This was a natural thing for me to do.
"Besides my family's connection to the McCarty Center, Republic has also been a corporate sponsor of different McCarty Center fundraising events for years," Thompson added.
The J.D. McCarty Center was founded in 1946 by a veterans group, the 40 et 8 of Oklahoma, to provide physical, occupational, speech and language therapy to Oklahoma children with special needs.
