NORMAN — Two events are scheduled today at the University of Oklahoma: a dedication ceremony for the School of Social Work’s new building and the College of Law’s academic convocation.
Anne and Henry Zarrow Hall, the newly built home for OU’s Anne and Henry Zarrow School of Social Work at 700 Elm Ave., is scheduled to be dedicated at 10:30 a.m.
The 30,000-square-foot building is named in honor of Henry Zarrow, a lifelong philanthropist, and his late wife, Anne, who shared his passion for helping others.
The Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation made a $5 million gift to the OU School of Social Work to make the new building possible.
“No one has done more to help those in need than Anne and Henry Zarrow,” OU President David L. Boren said. “To have their names associated with this new building to house the Zarrow School of Social Work appropriately honors their support of social workers and the crucial role they play in our society.”
Anne and Henry Zarrow Hall reflects the traditional Cherokee Gothic architecture of OU’s most historic buildings, while providing modern technological amenities.
It has general instruction space and seminar rooms, faculty and administrative offices, two clinical suites (each providing an observation room for skill-based instruction), a computer lab and a 200-seat community room.
Zarrow Hall also houses three project suites that are home to the Child Welfare Professional Enhancement Program and the Knee Center for Strong Families.
The College of Law’s academic convocation for first-year law students is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. inside the Dick Bell Courtroom of Andrew Coats Hall, 300 W. Timberdell Road.
Boren, OU College of Law Dean Joseph Harroz Jr. and Jeff Riles, president of the OU Student Bar Association, plan to speak. Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Steven W. Taylor will administer the professionalism pledge to the class.
