NORMAN — Two Norman North High School students recently received $2,500 National Merit scholarships.
Michelle Hahn Choi and Jen-Lor L. Fung are among 2,500 students to be selected across the nation from a pool of 15,000 finalists in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a news release.
The release states that scholarship recipients from each state were judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in college.
The students were selected by a committee of college admissions officers and high school counselors.
The release states the scholars can use their award at any regionally accredited United States college or university.
Most of these scholarships are financed by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, according to the release.
Corporations and company foundations also help underwrite some of these scholarships through the National Merit Corporation, the release states.
