Consignment sale a win for parents

NORMAN — Norman’s Just Between Friends consignment sale — an opportunity for parents to cut the costs and clothe kids — is open to the public through Saturday at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.

The fairgrounds facility is packed for a few days each year with clothing, toys, baby equipment, strollers, high chairs, cribs, joggers, nursery gear, maternity wear, baby carriers, play yards, play sets, coats and many more items, with most marked 50 to 90 percent off retail.

It’s all thanks to a mom who had a vision years ago.

“As a young mother, I was looking for great bargains on the best name brands for my kids and a better way to resell my family’s outgrown clothing, toys and everything else our family needed to raise our children,” said Kathy Winslow, Just Between Friends owner.

“I started Just Between Friends when my daughter was three years old as a way to serve not only my family, but the other families in my community. Our family has grown, and JBF has grown as well and is now serving thousands of families in our community every season. My daughter is now 17 years old,” she said.

All merchandise found at Just Between Friends is inspected to ensure only high-quality items will be sold.

“My favorite thing about JBF is that every part is a win-win. Shoppers win by being able to purchase quality, name-brand items at a fraction of retail cost,” Winslow said. “Consignors win by being able to recoup some of the investment they’ve made in their children and by getting a fair return on their outgrown items.

“Volunteers win by getting to shop first and earn more on their sold items by helping out at the event, which runs primarily on volunteering moms. The community wins by recycling gently-used items amongst its local families, as well as keeping even more income in town,” Winslow said.
