Spring Sing today at Catlett Music Center

NORMAN — The Norman Children’s Chorus is sponsoring the 12th annual Spring Sing at Catlett Music Center, 500 W. Boyd St., 3:30 p.m. today.

Guest conductor Dr. Angela Broeker, current director of choral activities at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, is leading a choir of 140 children during the event.

A new work by composer Jay Broeker will be premiered at the concert. It was written in honor of the 20th anniversary of Norman Children’s Chorus and their artistic director, Sandy Knudson. The event is partially funded by grants from the Norman Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and seniors.

The festival is for children in grades three through seven. Music teachers in Norman, Moore and Noble have been invited to bring students who love to sing.

Auditions are open for the Norman Children’s Chorus 2013-2014 season. It is open to third through eighth graders with unchanged voices. The chorus, divided into two choirs based on age and experience, meets on Monday evenings. Members of the Norman Children’s Chorus represent over 20 schools from Norman and the surrounding area.
