Theater to honor military members

NORMAN — The Sooner Theatre is honoring military members during the upcoming production of “White Christmas: The Musical.”

A limited number of complimentary tickets are available to active and retired military members for shows scheduled from Nov. 23 through Dec. 9. Military members will be recognized at the event.

Based on the classic 1954 film starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen, this musical adaptation features 17 Irving Berlin songs and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake.

Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont lodge, which happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former Army commander.

The score features well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean” and the perennial favorite, “White Christmas.”

Tickets to “White Christmas” are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.soonertheatre.com, by phone at 321-9600 or in person at the box office, which is open 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Tickets range from $18 to $23, with a special $15 rate for children 12 and under. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.

College and high school students who show their valid school ID at the box office within one hour of showtime can purchase tickets at 50 percent of the regular price for that evening’s performance. Student Rush tickets cannot be purchase in advance.
