Norman — Rotary selling hams for Easter

Norman Sooner Rotary wants to help you ham it up this Easter.

It’s time for the club’s annual Easter Ham sale, a fundraiser to benefit organizations such as Bridges and Safety Town.

Orders for these pre-cooked smoked fresh hams must be submitted by March 23. Hams will be delivered the week of March 29.

The hams range in price from $24 to $44, depending on the size and type of ham ordered.

Food and Shelter for Friends also is taking donations.

To place orders, call Judy Simpkins at 360-5449.

PFLAG to meet

PFLAG Norman, a support group for families and friends of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church, 1801 W. Brooks St. The group meets the second Thursday of every month and meetings are open to the public.

Norman MeetUp event Thursday

A local group formed to connect Norman social media users will host an event from 5-8 p.m. Thurs-day at Iron Starr Urban Bar-beque on Campus Corner.

Norman MeetUp will include a raffle for items donated from local businesses. The money will be donated to Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Norman. A cash bar and refreshments will be available too.

“It’s just a big networking event,” Cassie Gage, a member of the group, told The Transcript in an earlier interview.

Those interested in learning about social media are invited to attend as well.

Parents Helping Parents meeting Thursday

The Norman Chapter of Parents Helping Parents will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the Education Center of Norman Regional Hospital, 901 N. Porter Ave. 

The guest speaker will be Norman psychiatrist Dr. Joseph M. Ripperger, a Norman psychiatrist. He will discuss substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders in young people.

Parents Helping Parents is a network of parents and others concerned about alcohol/substance abuse among young people. The group promotes prevention and intervention, collaborative efforts and increased access to information, services and support.
