Council meeting tonight

Norman — The Norman City Council is scheduled to hear an array of items tonight during its regular meeting, set to begin at 6:30 inside council chambers, 201 W. Gray St.

Municipal costs could rise

The council will hear an ordinance this evening that seeks to raise municipal costs tp $30 from $25.

According to city documents, a state law amended in May 2009 allows courts “not of record,” such as Norman’s Municipal Court, to charge up to $30 in court costs.

The last time court costs were increased in Norman was 1999, when the court was handling about 18,000 citations each year, city documents show. In 2009, that number jumped to just more than 27,000.

$60K donation to police department

The council will be asked to consider a nearly $60,000 donation of equipment to the Norman Police Department.

The video X-ray system with imager extension arm will be used to evaluated objects that may contain explosives or other dangerous materials by the NPD’s Hazardous Devices Unit.

Well-drilling project costs less than expected

Phase II of the city’s Well Field Development project in northeast Norman ending up costing about $780,000 less than estimated and the council will be asked to amend the contract with the drillers to reflect that change.

According to city documents, the drillers have completed the project — 13 exploratory wells — well under the most recent estimate. Ten of the wells are producing enough quality drinking water to meet the city’s needs, while three have been abandoned, documents show.

For a complete agenda, visit the city’s Web site, www.ci. norman.ok.us, or stop by City Hall to pick one up in person.
