MNTC class geared to help HR professionals

NORMAN — Moore Norman Technology Center is presenting a Business Excellence Series to assist professionals and small business owners with up-to-date information in a variety of areas. The next class in the series will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Thursday with a Human Relations focus.

“I am enthused that Moore Norman Technology Center is able to host this HR focused Business Excellence Series class focused on the Human Resources professional,” said Chris Lange who is coordinating the class for MNTC.  “Also, another benefit of attending is that this course is pre-approved for 4.5 hours of HRCI credit.  This is one of the many offerings from Moore Norman Technology Center in the coming months to provide relevant topics that assist businesses in the area.”

Bill Wells will present “From the Boardroom to the Courtroom,” an overview of legislative actions from the recent session. Information will include antidiscrimination and drug testing, the Affordable Care Act, immigration and legal issues that are within the scope of the Human Relations professional.

Karen Vahlbers will discuss “The Influence of an Aging Society on Organizations.” As America ages, there is an effect on healtcare and human relations departments as strategies are formed to deal with the sustainablillity of the U.S. healthcare system. Discussion will include how an HR profession can help prepare an organization to better serve the workforce while eliminated deleterious impacts of anticipated changes.

Lange said this Human Relations focused class is a good opportunity for HR and other business professionals.

Bill Wells is a principal in Wells Law Firm, a labor and employment law firm located in downtown Oklahoma City. The firm’s practice emphasis is on labor and employment litigation. Wells has presented programs on labor and employment law and trial techniques to legal, governmental and business groups throughout Oklahoma, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Oklahoma Bar Association, and Oklahoma Trial Lawyers. Wells is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

Karen Vahlberg has 30 years of healthcare experience and more than 20 years in home care and is nationally recognized as an expert in the industry. Her understanding of clinical, regulatory and operational issues has attracted clients from across the country to assist them with start-ups, survey preparation and response, compliance, procedures, medical review and other operational issues.
