Placing third was Brandon Gates, a senior from Newcastle High School. He received a $2,000 award for his essay during a ceremony March 31 in Oklahoma City.
The contest, now in its eleventh year, asked Oklahoma high school seniors to answer the question “Why is entrepreneurship a foundation of our freedom?”
Winners were: first, Erin Bethea, senior, Ridge Christian School in Claremore, top prize of $5,000; second, Rachel Courtnay, senior, Washington High School, $2,500; third, Gates; fourth, Zack McDonald, senior, Duncan High School, $1,500; fifth, Jessica Hitt, senior, Poteau High School, $1,000.
