NORMAN — Norman police detectives spent Saturday at Willie Martin’s Oakhurst Avenue apartment looking for clues into how Martin died.
Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley said officers found Martin, 70, dead at his home Thursday night. Martin’s fiancé phoned police about 6:20 p.m. Thursday and requested officers check on Martin at his residence on the 1200 block of Oakhurst Avenue.
When police arrived, they discovered Martin’s body.
Easley said Martin is the city’s first homicide victim of the year.
As part of the investigation, detectives continued to process the scene Saturday and collect evidence from the home, Easley said.
He said no arrests have been made in the case.
At this point, investigators can’t speculate when Martin died, Easley said. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City on Thursday.
An autopsy was expected to be performed Friday, Easley said.
A spokeswoman with the State Medical Examiner’s Office said Friday afternoon she didn’t know if the autopsy had been completed. No report indicating one way or another was entered in the facility’s system.
Police are searching for Martin’s stepson, Robert Johnnie Schantz, 50, as a person of interest in the investigation, according to police.
Schantz may be driving a four-door orange Dodge Caliber with Oklahoma license plate 597HGP, police said.
Those who may have information about Schantz’s whereabouts or the vehicle’s are encouraged to call Norman police at 321-1600 or local authorities.
