Boren should honor those who reflect Oklahoma values

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

Once again OU President David Boren has tried to pull the wool over people’s eyes by honoring a left-leaning liberal and trying to make us believe they are somehow an objective, fair-minded person.

The last one he tried was that fair, objective debate moderator Candy Crowley. It’s OK for him to honor whomever he wants, but please don’t insult the people of Oklahoma’s intelligence by passing them off for something they’re not. To tell us that Judy Woodruff “has played the role of objective purveyor of information to us” is an insult to any fair-minded person’s intelligence.

I have watched her, on numerous occasions, lob softball questions to her liberal guests, only to come out smoking when talking to a conservative or Republican. Most of the time, she simply ignores a story if it is detrimental to the president or Democrats.

Just as previous honorees, Ms. Crowley and Thomas Friedman, liberal lion of the New York Times, Ms. Woodruff is a biased, opinionated commentator out to further the cause of liberalism. I would like just once for Mr. Boren to honor someone who represents the values of the common folks in Oklahoma and not just pander to his liberal friends and faculty.

BOB STICKNEY
