Thanks for Christmas cards

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

The holiday cards from the Norman community are signed and ready to be delivered to all seven VA centers across the state. This could not have been without all the cards that were left at our house. Many we did not know who left them, but they will be appreciated by our veterans.

I had a chance to visit the lady in charge of them at the Lawton center. She stressed again what we all have learned, that most of these men and women have no other family than the friends they have made there. They have been forgotten.

It is wonderful what a simple card can do to their spirits, both men and women. This is the fourth year we have delivered them, and she said they really look forward to getting them.

It is our hope that when you finish you cards this year, or find some on sale, you will remember our veterans and drop them by. Your gracious donations made it possible to deliver 1,571 cards. We love for you to sign them and write your own message. We write “Thanks for your service” on the ones we sign.

Look for a box beside the front door at 518 S. Lahoma Ave. Dan Kelly will be collecting them. Haleigh Cline, 625-0367, will be available to pick up cards from any of you who do not have transportation.

I really thought we would do good to add one center a year ... and thanks to the gracious people in Norman, we did it — all seven centers. You are wonderful.

Thank you all.
